Call for Submissions: A Return to Original Artistry
When this platform was first established, AI-generated imagery was utilized as a temporary measure to accelerate the initial build. However, as we transition into our long-term vision, it is essential that we move toward a foundation of human creativity. We are a site dedicated to the craft of comics, and as such, our future depends on the inclusion of original artwork created by real artists.
Our Vision for Growth
We aren’t strictly looking for “big name” industry veterans. Our goal is to build a platform robust enough to accommodate a wide spectrum of talent and styles over time. We want this to be a space where emerging and local artists can find a home for their work alongside established creators. We are building for the long haul, and we want the art to reflect that organic growth.
The Submission Process
To facilitate this transition, we are officially opening a Call for Submissions. Our strategy for sourcing art will follow two primary paths:
-
Topic-Based Submissions: We will regularly post proposed topics or subjects. Artists are invited to submit work based on these prompts for potential inclusion on the site.
-
Local & Regional Networking: We intend to approach local artists directly to foster a grassroots community. Over time, we hope to expand these efforts to build a comprehensive contacts list of artists across a wider region.
Funding and Sustainability
Transparency regarding compensation is vital. Currently, payments for selected work will be funded out-of-pocket rather than from a business fund. Our operating capital is being held as a sacrosanct reserve until the site reaches a critical mass of growth. This ensures the long-term stability of the platform while still allowing us to pay artists for their contributions today.
Rights and Provenance
We believe in a creator-friendly environment. There is no surrender of copyright required for submissions. Instead, we require an assignment of rights specifically for the use of the artwork on this website. Furthermore, to maintain professional standards and verify the history of the work, every piece must be accompanied by a standard provenance document.
We are excited to move away from placeholders and start showcasing the incredible talent the comic community has to offer.
